Active redundancy

Parts, modules, processes, and procedures that carry out the same operations concurrently. Should one of these items fail, the system will continue to operate in a normal mode of operation without downtime or defects.

For example the United States Space Shuttle has multiple active redundant systems. Some individual operations contain several redundant systems by themselves.
